JESSE ON MISSION IN LIBERIA

NOTES FROM AFRICA

1/21/2012
Liberia is an amazing place that God has a firm grip on! Everything is going great so far. Today we put on the race Legs For Liberia, where 150 Liberian youth ran a 5k for the chance to win a trade Scholarship to go to a technical college. Out of the 150 runners 30 of them received scholarships.

As a runner a long held dream of mine was realized, I got to run in a race in Africa!! God is so good!! The most amazing story from today, one of many, was from one of the scholarship winners. This young man showed up yesterday, for registration, early. Registration started around 9-3 pm. He did not preregister, so he did not have a spot, but since 14 people did not show up for registration, we did a lottery for the people hoping to have a shot at entering the race. There were about 40 of them hoping to get in. So the young man got to the church ,just hoping for an opening, at 7am that morning. He waited all day, not leaving the church for fear of missing an opportunity. He waited all day until 3pm. His name was drawn and he was registered. He did not win the race today, nor did he place in the top 10.

We gave the top ten winners, girls and boys, different age groups, and we drew 10 names from a lottery after the race. On the last name to be drawn, it was his. God is so good. He was so desperate to have a future and God answered his prayers.

Thanks,

Jesse Martin

"I have an Associates Degree from Piedmont Virginia Community College in General Studies, a Bachelor's Degree from Liberty University in Religious Studies (Spring 2012).

I have completed a two-year internship in The Steward House at Watermarks Camp. The Steward House is an internship that creates intentional community where college students learn how to live life well, develop Christian leadership qualities, servant hood, teamwork, and discover their God-given calling for their lives. I am currently completing an optional third-year in the Steward House.

I have served at Watermarks Camp, a Christian camp, for three summers as a full-time counselor, and four years as a seasonal staff.

My heart is for Youth, 'the least of these', and world missions. I have served on four international mission trips, as well as numerous local missions. I want to know how I can serve you."
